As the NBA offseason nears, the main storyline entering it is where Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant will land.
At this point it is a matter of when, not if, Durant will be traded as multiple teams have been in active trade talks with Phoenix trying to land the future Hall of Famer.
Of course, three teams have emerged as Durant’s preferred landing spots as ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that he prefers to land with the San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat or Houston Rockets.
Despite this, there have been other teams in talks with the Suns about a potential Durant trade, including the Minnesota Timberwolves who have reportedly been the most aggressive in trying to pair him next to Anthony Edwards.
While that may be the case, a report by The Athletic on Monday night shows that Durant has a clear stance on which team he wants to play for next.
According to the Athletic, Durant’s preferred trade destination is the Spurs as he wants to pair himself alongside Victor Wembanyama.
This is a massive report as it is clear that Durant has one team in mind who he wants to play for next season and it is in San Antonio.
Despite this, it has been reported that the Suns have not been intrigued by the Spurs’ trade offers thus far for Durant and it is ultimately Phoenix’s decision on which team they trade him to.

While that may be the case, Durant could force other teams to back off in trade talks, especially if he is unwilling to sign an extension with them, ultimately making a potential deal a one-year rental.
If Durant ends up doing this, it may force the Suns to make a deal with the Spurs that could end up being a much smaller trade package than they hoped to receive in return for their star forward.
