The 2024-25 campaign is over for Manchester United, yet the impact of the struggles will be lasting.
Having managed to end the season on a high against Aston Villa, there is renewed hope that Manchester United will be improved for the 2025-26 campaign.
The season that just passed was the worst in recent memory, with the club finishing the season 15th in the table as the players failed to adjust to Ruben Amorim’s system, letting him down on numerous occasions.
As a result, only four United players are untouchable for Amorim, which will result in substantial outgoings over the next few months, making way for the transfer plans that Jason Wilcox is currently working on.
United have four key signings to make, with Matheus Cunha already signed, but due to budget constraints, Ineos need to sell, and due to the poor season, asking prices are being forced downwards.
Now, the true value of one player’s struggles is clear.

Rasmus Hojlund sees his value almost halve after 2024-25 struggles
For the Red Devils, few players had tougher campaigns than Rasmus Hojlund. The Dane scored 10 times, but his performances offered virtually nothing, which has made a new number nine top of the priority list this summer.
Gary Neville slammed Hojlund for “struggling” while adding that the 22-year-old “can’t even control a ball”; however, he offered sympathy for the striker. Now, using TransferMarkt’s valuation metric, we can see the impact his poor performances have had.

Hojlund’s value drop was the biggest at Old Trafford in terms of percentage, at around 45 per cent.
Rasmus Hojlund – £25m drop
Matthijs de Ligt – £22.9m drop
Bruno Fernandes – £17m drop
Luke Shaw – £17m drop
Joshua Zirkzee – £17m drop
Hojlund’s value decreased by £25m to £29.8m from £54.8m, which is a significant drop, but not outrageous, as the season he had deserves this colossal value cut, but it will be Ineos who feel the effects as they bid to find his exit.
Rasmus Hojlund to Inter Milan latest
Hojlund has now spent two full seasons as the United starting striker and within these two seasons he has shown very few signs that he will be good enough to lead the line anytime soon.
Poor finishing, positioning and physicality have seen the past 12 months in particular be a real struggle for the Danish forward, meaning Hojlund is actively seeking an exit from United this summer, knowing he has run out of time.
With the 22-year-old due to be sold, it has emerged that Hojlund is Inter Milan’s first choice to strengthen their attack, and will likely sell to clear space for the Dane.
It makes sense, as Hojlund’s qualities are much better suited to Italian football than English and he could hit the ground running with experience of playing in Serie A. With United looking to sign a striker, Hojlund’s minutes will disappear and so it is best for all involved that ties are cut while the Dane can still go and salvage his career.
With a value of just £29m, United will certainly take a loss on Hojlund in terms of PSR, which means his underperformance is a blow to Ineos who will have to ensure this brings no problems for PSR.
