Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres celebrates scoring in the Portuguese Cup final
The summer transfer window is back open after a six-day break and Manchester United hope to wrap up some more business ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
United announced the signing of Matheus Cunha in a £62.5million transfer from Wolves earlier this month, but the Reds have been quiet since then, even if Bryan Mbeumo has confirmed he prefers a move to Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim is still keen for United to sign a new No.9, with Napoli's Victor Osimhen, Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres and Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike among those in contention for a move to the Reds.
Elsewhere, United want to offload players. Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho could leave the Reds this summer. Here, Manchester Evening News has taken a look at the latest transfer rumours and news involving United...
Gyokeres option 'open'
Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Viktor Gyokeres is yet to decide on his next move despite claims he has turned down Manchester United. Reports over the weekend claimed the Sporting CP had decision to prioritise a move to Arsenal, rejecting United as a result. But Romano has stated that is not the case.
Writing in his newsletter for GiveMeSport, he said: "At the moment the situation is open, he has not rejected anything. Only giving priority to Arsenal, but club to club, let's see."
MEN says: "United should attempt to sign Gyokeres, even if they have to pay more than £59million for his services. He would fit straight into Amorim's side as the No.9 and could take them to the very next level.
"It does feel as though the Reds lack a natural goalscorer, and having scored 54 goals in 52 matches for Sporting CP in 2024/25, Gyokeres could be the man to add firepower to the Reds squad. Amorim and Gyokeres worked together at Sporting and that could be a lure for the ex-Coventry City man."
Boudaoui interest
Manchester United are keen on signing Algerian midfielder Hicham Boudaoui from INEOS-owned Ligue 1 side Nice, it has been claimed. The Sun report that United sent scouts to watch Boudaoui in international action as Algeria took on Sweden at the Friends Arena.
Club officials monitored the performance of Boudaoui, who started and played an hour before he was taken off. United are now thinking of signing the 25-year-old, who has been tipped to leave Nice.
MEN says: "Set to turn 26 in September, Boudaoui might be the exact type of midfielder United at this moment. Although the Reds have a number of midfielders in their squad, it doesn't feel as though Amorim is satisfied with the options he has at his disposal, meaning another could come through the door.
"Having impressed in France and on the international stage, Boudaoui could be the perfect fit. He is a physical presence and someone that loves a tackle and a block."
