Bayern continue to fight for 31-goal Arsenal target in last 24 hrs transfer development

Bayern Munich have been heavily linked with a move for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, but they face strong competition from Barcelona.

Premier League outfit Arsenal are also in the race for the Spain international, who prefers a move to Barcelona this summer.

Mikel Arteta wants to sign a new attacker to their ranks, but it looks like the Gunners could be beaten in the transfer race for Williams.

According to Sky Germany journalist, Florian Plettenberg, Barcelona currently have the best chance to sign the Bilbao winger.

The Catalan giants have taken significant steps ahead of Bayern and Arsenal to sign the winger. Plettenberg says that “important new negotiations” have taken place in the last 24 hours.

Joan Laporta is now assessing whether a transfer is feasible. Hansi Flick is determined to sign Williams, and he is waiting for the green light from Barcelona to move ahead.

Bayern have been informed about the latest situation, and they are now waiting to see if Barcelona can complete the transfer.

Christian Falk told CFBayern Insider that while it’s true that Williams prefers a move to Barcelona, it’s not entirely clear whether Barcelona have the finances to complete his deal.

Falk further adds that Bayern continue to fight to secure his signature. Arsenal are still in the race for Williams as well.

Bayern Munich must act quickly to sign Williams

The 22-year-old has a release clause worth around £50m in his contract, which runs until 2027, but he is demanding high wages.

Williams is a dream signing for Bayern and they cannot lose another top target, after missing out on Florian Wirtz to Liverpool this summer.

Falk previously reported that Max Eberl has already met with Williams’ officials in Munich, and talks have been held. That is probably why Bayern has been informed about Barcelona’s latest development.

After Bayern’s win against Auckland on Sunday, Eberl was asked about Williams, but he remained tight-lipped about the situation.

Williams has scored 31 goals in all competitions for Athletic Bilbao since making his senior debut in 2020, and it remains to be seen if Bayern or Arsenal get involved in a transfer tug of war.
