Everton once again look set to face a battle to keep hold of Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

Branthwaite has improved drastically with the Toffees in recent years and has been subject to plenty of interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs in all of the recent transfer windows.

Everton are now facing a threat from Tottenham this time around, with Daniel Levy and Co. keen to supply Thomas Frank with one of the country’s most promising defensive prospects.

David Moyes has overseen a dramatic turnaround since he returned to Everton in January, and Branthwaite will be a crucial part of his plans for next season as he looks to lead the Toffees back into the top half of the Premier League.

However, the Friedkin Group might have no choice but to cash in after a recent transfer update.

Everton may be better served entertaining Tottenham’s advances

Tottenham’s interest in Branthwaite has now intensified, and the Toffees could well face a formal bid from Spurs for Branthwaite at some point this week [Daily Mail, 16 June].

David Moyes is understood to be keen to keep hold of one of his key men, but the Merseysiders are thought to be willing to entertain offers in the region of £70million.

Moyes is expected to be well-backed in the transfer market by the Friedkin Group, but with potential PSR concerns looming over Everton, it could make sense for the Toffees to cash in on Branthwaite, especially as the defender is keen to play UEFA Champions League football and might look to force a move.

If Spurs do table a bid that Everton consider to be acceptable, it could make sense for the Toffees to sell the 22-year-old, as that would bring a massive amount of profit and, in turn, help to alleviate some of their financial concerns.

Everton could reinvest the profit across the squad

Moyes would understandably be desperate not to lose Branthwaite, especially as Everton prepare to enter a new era in the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, if Tottenham lodge an offer around the £70m mark, it would be extremely hard for TFG To turn down.

Branthwaite’s Everton stats

In addition, if Everton suddenly had that amount of money come into their coffers, it could be reinvested into the squad to fund three or four high-quality additions in key areas of the pitch.

Spend that money wisely, and it could provide a capable replacement for Branthwaite, as well as influential options in other areas.

On the other hand, it could also single-handedly account for the club to make a marquee signing. Everton are one of several sides that are interested in taking Jack Grealish from Manchester City.

Branthwaite’s sale could easily be used as a sacrifice to ensure the Toffees could cover Grealish’s wages, and facilitate a move for a man who could spearhead their season next year.

It will be a massively tough decision for Moyes to part company with a player who has served Everton so well in recent years, but it could open the door to almost endless possibilities in the transfer market.
