Sam Greenwood has had limited opportunities to impress at Leeds United, and a summer exit from Elland Road could be on the cards.
As Daniel Farke looks to get his side in shape for life in the Premier League, adding to his attacking options is a key area of focus.
Therefore, opportunities for Greenwood may continue to be limited.
However, a move back to his hometown could be on the cards this summer, with Sunderland possibly giving him another shot at the Premier League.

Greenwood seen training in Sunderland
The odds may have been in Sheffield United’s favour at Wembley Stadium, but it is Sunderland joining Leeds and Burnley in the top flight next season.
MORE LEEDS STORIES
With the task of survival in the Premier League proving to be more difficult each season, all of the newly promoted sides will need to make serious signings.
According to the Daily Mail (17 June), Sunderland have Greenwood on their radar, with the hope of bringing him back to where he started.
The versatile player was born in Sunderland and started his career in the Black Cats’ academy, before being poached by Arsenal.
Having spent last season on loan with Preston, offering eight goal contributions across the campaign, Regis Le Bris now feels he could be what his side needs next term.
The report states that Greenwood has already been spotted training in Sunderland, including partaking in an academy session alongside Carl Lawson and Rees Greenwood, who were both previous Black Cats too.
Although it looks as though the 23-year-old is just retaining his fitness over the summer months, it certainly shows that the ties are as strong as ever with home.

Leeds to let Greenwood leave
Farke is looking to upgrade his options at Leeds next season, and although Greenwood has been offered top-flight opportunities before, the current manager is seemingly yet to be convinced.
With the attacker entering the final season of his contract this summer, it is also the perfect time for Leeds to cash in, especially as the 49ers eye a long-term sustainable plan in the top flight.
Season Team League Appearances Goals Assists
2024/25 Preston North End (loan) Championship 38 5 3
2023/24 Leeds United Championship 1 0 0
2023/24 Middlesbrough (loan) Championship 37 5 3
2022/23 Leeds United Premier League 18 1 2
2021/22 Leeds United Premier League 7 0 2
Greenwood does have solid experience under his belt.
The 23-year-old does have Premier League experience, having made 18 appearances in the 2022-23 season for the Whites, so it’s understandable why Le Bris’ side may be keen.
The Black Cats won’t have the most money to play with this summer, though, and with Leicester City also credited in interest, the West Yorkshire outfit may do well to consider all the options on the table.
