Liverpool may already have the answer to their striker problem after what Premier League player said - opinion

Liverpool are likely to start a heavily changed starting XI for their opening game of the 2025-26 season.

Arne Slot has already brought in Jeremie Frimpong, and with the transfer of Florian Wirtz now edging closer, many changes have already been made to their ranks.

One area that has been discussed extensively is their attack, with the futures of Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez all up in the air.

Diaz and Nunez have been linked with a plethora of clubs from across the world, whereas Gakpo has only been linked with Bayern Munich.

With this in mind, it’s clear that if one or more of these players exit Anfield, reinforcements will have to be sourced, which is why it’s not surprising to see numerous strikers linked with a move to Slot’s team.

Igor Jesus has shared that Joao Pedro sees his future away from Brighton amid Liverpool interest

One striker that Liverpool have been linked with over the last few weeks is Joao Pedro.

The Brazilian has had his problems with injuries over the last couple of seasons, but when he’s on form, he’s a force to be reckoned with.

And, after what his Brighton teammate Igor Jesus said about his future, it feels like Liverpool should go all in for the attacker.

“João Pedro had already told Brighton some time ago that his desire was to leave, seek new things, take the next step,” Jesus said to Trivela in quotes summarised by the Sussex Express.

“It seems it will be difficult and complicated for him to stay here. We have to be honest, the club already knows that.”

The other strikers Liverpool could end up targeting

One of Slot’s main areas to reinforce this term will be his striker.

Players such as Nunez and Diogo Jota have failed to perform at the levels expected of them, which has meant that Gakpo and Diaz have had to fill in at striker.

Indeed, the Anfield outfit are set to welcome Wirtz to the club for a club-record fee, but if they really want to take their attack to the next level, a regular scoring number nine is how Slot will do that.

Players such as Hugo Ekitike and Viktor Gyokeres have both been linked with Anfield switches as both are highly sought-after targets in the transfer market at the moment.

Hugo Ekitike 48 22 12

Both have had rather prolific seasons in their respective leagues, but with Gyokeres managing to do it on a more consistent basis than the Frenchman, it feels like he’d be their best option.

Indeed, only time will tell what the future holds, but with the way things are headed, it would be a surprise not to see a new striker making his way through the Anfield doors before the start of the next Premier League season.
