The New York Knicks aren't trading for Kevin Durant because they have no interest in bringing him in, despite his desire to join the team.
Kevin Durant's time with the Phoenix Suns appears to be coming to an end. Multiple reports suggest that a trade could happen within days or weeks.

One of KD's longtime preferred destinations was the New York Knicks, but the feeling wasn't mutual.
"KD wanted the New York Knicks. He wanted to go there. The Knicks have no interest in bringing him in," Marc J. Spears said on NBA Today.
"I think there's some fear from him and Rich Kleiman," Spears added, referring to Durant's longtime business partner and agent. "They're hoping that there is going to be some respect at Kevin's age to give him what he wants, rather than try to trade him like he's 31 years old, which he's not anymore."

With Durant seemingly off the table, the Knicks may now shift their focus to a blockbuster pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
NBA veteran reporter Gery Woelfel reported that New York was preparing a "tsunami-type" offer for the Milwaukee Bucks superstar.
Even if a move for Giannis doesn't materialize, the Knicks are reportedly eyeing another major frontcourt shakeup.
"Sources familiar with the situation tell ClutchPoints that at least one key member of the Knicks' front office has long been interested in Jackson Jr. as a trade target," Pursiainen wrote.
"The Knicks' acquisition of Karl-Anthony Towns last offseason didn't nullify this interest, either. League sources say that a Jackson Jr. and Karl-Anthony Towns frontcourt would be a 'dream' pairing for New York in their starting lineup."
Meanwhile, the Knicks are still searching for a new head coach after parting ways with Tom Thibodeau.
