Report: Man Utd target £25m player who does the 'dirty work' in midfield, has trait Ruben Amorim loves

This summer was off to a quick start for Manchester United with Matheus Cunha signed swiftly, but since things have slowed down.

Ineos’ first summer with a recruitment team in place is hypothetically going to be an excellent one.

The players being targeted are all top tier, with Bryan Mbeumo one of the best in the Premier League and also the striker targets are among the very best available, showcasing the ambition at Manchester United to get back on track.

There are expected to be four key signings completed this summer, with one area tipped for recruitment the central midfield role, with depth looking slim for Ruben Amorim right now.

This has led to United scouts watching Hicham Boudaoui over the past few weeks, while there is also long term interest from Ineos to sign Chris Rigg this summer.

Now, United have cast eyes toward the Serie A for a potential addition.

Manchester United target Davide Frattesi swoop

Manchester United’s midfield is a position that needs to be strengthened this summer and while a player like Adam Wharton is probably the top choice, barring the sale of Casemiro there is likely not the cash available or space in the squad wage bill.

This makes cheaper options more likely and now Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi has emerged as a possible signing for the Red Devils.

It is claimed by Sky Sports Switzerland that Italy international Frattesi is wanted by United. In the report, journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed that the midfielder is considering his future in Milan.

Despite manager Simone Inzaghi heading to Al-Hilal, Frattesi’s future looks less certain than ever before and having been upset at a lack of game time despite top performances against Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Frattesi has told his representatives to begin discussions over his departure with Napoli pressing for the midfield talent who could join Scott McTominay and Kevin de Bruyne. However, while Frattesi wants to remain in Serie A, United and Atletico Madrid have both expressed an interest.

Inter have set a £29m asking price for Napoli in order to not strengthen their rivals, however, United may get a discount on this if interest develops beyond the initial stages.

Frattesi would be a bizarre signing from Manchester United

Frattesi is a midfielder that Amorim would probably be a fan of with his relentless work rate in midfield ticking the box of the United head coach’s big demand. In an article by FCInterNews, Frattesi was praised by local media for doing the ‘dirty work’ in Inter’s midfield.

Where this deal gets weird however, is that United don’t really have a role for Frattesi in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Frattesi is much more of a number eight and it is tough to imagine him starting for the Red Devils, or complimenting the current options in midfield with his poor passing range and defensive quality.

Despite suiting Inter and Italian football, Frattesi would be a bad signing for United and on the surface would be a big risk that doesn’t need to be taken with better options available for cheaper.
