BBC reports Bayern Munich set to hijack€80M Manchester United target

Manchester United’s summer rebuild under Ruben Amorim is well underway, with the club prioritising dynamic, attack-minded players capable of elevating the team’s creativity and goal threat.

The Red Devils are assessing a number of versatile attackers, with the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony forcing the club to widen its scope.

With Amorim’s desire to implement a more fluid, possession-heavy system, United’s recruitment team is focusing on players with the ability to both score and create from deeper areas, especially with Bruno Fernandes entering his thirties and Casemiro nearing the end of his Old Trafford tenure.

The club have also taken note of how rivals such as Arsenal and Manchester City have used technically gifted attacking midfielders to devastating effect — something United lacked in the 2024/25 campaign.

And now, one name has jumped to the top of the list.

Eberechi Eze is the latest Premier League star linked with a move to Manchester United, as reports indicate the club are prepared to trigger the Crystal Palace playmaker’s £68 million release clause.

Eberechi Eze, who turns 27 later this month, enjoyed a stunning end to the season with Palace, scoring in six consecutive games — a feat not seen at the club since 2009.

He ended the campaign with 14 goals in all competitions, including the winner in the FA Cup final, helping the Eagles lift their first major trophy in history.

No player in Europe’s top five leagues was involved in more goals across all competitions after the March international break, with Eze’s late-season form turning heads across the continent.

According to the BBC, Bayern Munich are also believed to be monitoring the England international closely, especially given his previous on-pitch chemistry with Michael Olise, who joined Bayern last year and was named Bundesliga Rookie of the Season.

Eze and Olise combined for 34 chances during their final two campaigns together at Selhurst Park, and the Frenchman set up eight of Eze’s 22 league goals during that time.

The attacking midfielder recently declared: “I want to win everything, that’s it.

“That’s the mentality, that’s the aim, it’s always been the goal from the start.”

That ambition could align perfectly with Amorim’s project — and United may not want to let Bayern steal another Palace gem without a fight.
