Man United are prepared to accept an offer for Mason Mount ahead of the summer transfer window, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that Ruben Amorim has decided the 26-year-old is not of the required standard.

Following the arrival of Matheus Cunha and the club’s efforts to sign Bryan Mbeumo, there is now a belief Mount could be moved on to free up space.

Brown told Football Insider on 9 June that Man United are closing in on signing Mbeumo as they edge closer to an agreement over a fee with Brentford.

As a result, the former Chelsea midfielder is set to drop down the pecking order and will be sold if the right offer arrives this summer.

This comes amid a potential mass clear-out at United, with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho also linked with moves away.

Ruben Amorim makes Mason Mount decision at Man United

In what was another season riddled with injuries for the midfielder, he made 26 appearances across all competitions and just 11 starts.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Aston Villa, West Ham and Tottenham, has now insisted United believe they can upgrade on Mount and will let him leave to clear space.

“*There is a possibility Mason Mount is sold,*” he told Football Insider.

“They put a lot of stock into getting him fit again and getting him back to where he was.

“He’s played a number of games in succession now, but I think Amorim has made the decision that he doesn’t think he’s good enough.

“If they feel they can move him on and there’s enough interest, they’re prepared to do it.

“United will do the same thing with a few of their fringe players if offers are made.

“They’ve got Cunha and probably Mbeumo coming in to play in the positions he was being used in, so that is a sign of where he ranks in the squad.

“It’s a shame he’s had these injuries since he arrived from Chelsea because there is a top player in there.

“United just feel they can improve in that position and that may mean moving him on.”

Emiliano Martinez update emerges at Old Trafford

While speculation is set to continue surrounding Mount’s future at Old Trafford, United are also aiming to upgrade in goal amid concerns about Andre Onana.

Brown told Football Insider on 16 June that Man United are interested in signing Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa and could now step up that interest.

This comes after Onana confessed [via the Mail]: “Will I leave? I don’t know. We’ll see,” amid ongoing speculation about his future at United.

Brown told Football Insider in May that Martinez’s agents are pushing to leave Villa, with suitors in Saudi Arabia and across Europe being considered.
