Manchester United are bracing for a tough battle to secure top talent this summer, having missed out on Champions League action, with their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo proving trickier than expected.
The Red Devils were initially tipped to bag the Brentford striker but had their £60million bid knocked back before Tottenham Hotspur joined the fray - spurred on by the arrival of Mbeumo's former gaffer Thomas Frank. Spurs have since tabled a hefty £70m bid.
United are still optimistic about landing the player, having already snapped up Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62m. However, Amorim has bigger fish to fry as he grapples with offloading surplus stars like Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony.
After a disappointing Premier League season that saw them languishing 15th in the league, Amorim is keen to beef up his squad with quality additions to bolster his ranks. Here, Daily Star Sporthas compiled the latest Manchester United transfer tales and whispers.

Mbeumo is reportedly "leaning towards" a switch to Old Trafford, but the saga remains murky following United's unsuccessful bid.
Frank's switch to Spurs has thrown a spanner in the works, with whispers that the player is now "intrigued" by the prospect of joining North London.
United are pulling out all the stops to charm Mbeumo, and now goalie Andre Onana is getting stuck in, trying to sway his compatriot. Onana and Mbeumo are close off the pitch, and United are banking on their bromance to tip the scales in their favour.

Amorim might be content with Onana as his main man for the upcoming season, but he could be tempted to look elsewhere as ESPN Argentina reports that Emiliano Martinez is hankering for a move to Old Trafford.
Martinez, tied down to Villa Park until 2029, looks set to bid adieu this summer after what seemed like a teary goodbye post the squad's final home match.
He has turned out 212 times for Villa since arriving from Arsenal in 2020 and earned a total of 53 caps for his country.

Alejandro Garnacho is another United misfit they're trying to shift this summer after clashing with Amorim.
After being benched for United's Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, the winger mouthed off about the team's season being "s***" - and his agent brother Roberto piled on the criticism saying he'd been "thrown under the boss" by his manager.
Napoli are strongly linked with a swoop for the Argentine, pairing him with ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte. Bayer Leverkusen are also thought to be keen, but the price put them off – United valued him at £70m.

Despite outside attention, Garnacho's prioritising staying in England's top tier, according to the Daily Mail.
