It’s so obvious which team Harvey Elliott should join when he leaves Liverpool - opinion

Harvey Elliott is a stellar talent, and Liverpool are lucky to have him among their ranks.

However, throughout the 2024-25 season, things didn’t quite go to plan for the young Englishman, with Arne Slot hardly giving him any playing time.

Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones were the Dutchman’s preferred options for attack-minded midfielders this term, with Elliott being cast aside despite being one of Jurgen Klopp’s stars.

And, with Florian Wirtz set to join Liverpool and add even more competition to that area of the pitch, it isn’t a surprise to see Elliott admitting his time at Anfield could be over.

And after what Stuart Pearce said earlier in the month, it’s now clear where he should go next.

Stuart Pearce believes Harvey Elliott would be a perfect match for West Ham United

Elliott is a versatile player who can play on the right wing or as an attacking midfielder.

More often than not, Klopp opted to play the 22-year-old in a more central role due to his keen eye for goal and ability to dribble past a man when needed.

This is an area of the pitch that a lot of Premier League teams require reinforcement in, with Stuart Pearce now claiming that West Ham United would be the perfect team for him to join.

“Right every day for me, on both counts, the player needs to play. When [Jurgen] Klopp left, he said: ‘I should have played Harvey Elliott a bit more’,” Pearce said while live on talkSPORT.

“That was one of the statements he made.

“He identified the talent of him and identified that he didn’t play him enough. He hasn’t played enough this year once again.

“I think that would be a good move for both parties.”

Why West Ham would be an ideal move for Harvey Elliott

As most who have paid attention to the Premier League this season will know, the Hammers have been through a bit of a turbulent time.

They started the campaign with Julen Lopetegui at the helm and spent a massive chunk of change on reinforcing their squad.

Some transfers, such as Carlos Soler’s, worked out, whereas others, such as Niclas Fullkrug’s, weren’t worth West Ham spending their money on.

And, even though Soler was one of their best additions of the season, the Hammers have sent the Spaniard back to Paris Saint-Germain, and they now find themselves down a creative midfielder.

This is why Elliott moving to West Ham makes a lot of sense as he covers two areas of the pitch, with one of them likely being their top priority this summer.

The Englishman’s talent and keen eye for goal make him an ideal match for Graham Potter’s set-up and would allow him to have a team built around his qualities rather than trying to fit into Liverpool’s system.

At the end of the day, nothing is guaranteed, but on the face of things, Elliott moving to the London Stadium this summer feels like it makes a lot of sense.

That is, even if the likes of Bayer Leverkusen have shown an interest in the former Fulham man this summer.
