Anthony Gordon and Liverpool's Curtis Jones

Newcastle United are staying cool after weekend leaks that linked Anthony Gordon with Liverpool with a £100m fee mooted.

Sources at United have suggested that no indication of a possible sale for the England international has come internally, while Liverpool have been watertight with their business so far. However, Newcastle won't entertain any knockdown offers for any of their players given the big hope is to retain their stars this summer amid a tricky PSR situation.

The Magpies do have more room to maneuver in the window, and there is cash to spend, but Eddie Howe will be working with a set budget.

Newcastle are hoping to present a tidy set of accounts ahead of the PSR healthcheck deadline on June 30 before the real transfer action gets under way in July.

By then a number of big earners may be off the books and there will be more leeway to conduct business. Although, there is a need for urgency with pre-season training now just three weeks away and Eddie Howe so far not having a single new senior signing through the door.

It would take a dramatic sequence of events for Gordon to go with Liverpool needing to come up with a tempting offer first, then a play from the Scouse star's representatives to push through what would be Newcastle's biggest ever sale by some margin.

At the moment, Newcastle's biggest exit is a joint affair with Elliot Anderson and Andy Carroll at £35m, the largest sales for the Magpies. But any exit Gordon would have to be more than double this summer, and as things stand, Newcastle sources are suggesting there has been no approach.

Joao Pedro awaiting news amid whirlwind of speculation

Down on the South Coast, there was an element of surprise when there was a claim that Newcastle had began talks with Brighton & Hove Albion on Pedro.

The word from Albion remains that they will only offload Pedro for a fee north of £60m and so far Newcastle have not tabled such an offer. Just like Bryan Mbeumo's wage demands, Newcastle have a limit and won't upset any structure if the price is not right.

This was the case last summer when United pushed up to £70m for Marc Guehi with Crystal Palace before the Magpies decided to leave the room when things became unworkable. Once again Newcastle feel they are being hit with a "Saudi tax" and that it is close to impossible to get a fair price.

Martin Dubravka agent testing the market

As reported on Chronicle Live yesterday, the 36-year-old has no interest in being a back-up option in the 2025/26 season. Dubravka is eyeing regular football as he looks towards the 2026 World Cup.

The good news for Newcastle is that they will be able to recoup a cash fee for the veteran stopper after he agreed an extension last January.

After flirting with the exit on a number of occasions at Newcastle, including an aborted loan to Manchester United, it feels like Dubravka's time is winding down to a close on Tyneside.

His agent is believed to have held discussions with Saudi Pro League clubs and a clutch of European sides in the market for an experienced keeper.

Newcastle have a whole host of goalkeeping options at the minute despite John Ruddy being out of contract. A move for James Trafford is still in the works.
