L’Equipe claim that Chelsea have opened casual talks with the Ligue 1 outfit about a potential deal.
A new report from the French outlet says that Liverpool have entered talks with Fofana’s agents, adding that Manchester United are also interested in the player.
Nottingham Forest have also been credited with an interest, although they are not considered serious contenders for his signature.
Lyon are said to want €50 million (£42.6m) for Fofana, who is one of several players who could leave the club this summer to ease their financial concerns.
They have already sold Rayan Cherki to Manchester City for €40m, loaned out Said Benrahma out to Saudi Pro League outfit NEOM with a buy option for €12m, and released former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.
