Newcastle United would like to add another striker to their squad this summer, and while a lot hinges on the future of Callum Wilson, the Magpies are thought to be making moves to bring in a new forward.
A move for João Pedro has been spoken about on a daily basis recently, and it's thought that signing the Brighton forward would tick off a couple of boxes for Eddie Howe as he's adept at playing wide right as well as a centre-forward. However, there's a feeling that Newcastle would still need a player for each position rather than trying to double up.
Should Callum Wilson choose to accept Newcastle's pay-as-you-play offer, then the hunt for a striker may take a backseat as Eddie Howe finds a right winger.
While the search continues, it seems Newcastle have already taken a step back from one target.

Tottenham have stepped up their interest in Arnaud Kalimuendo
Newcastle appear to have opted against a move for Arnaud Kalimuendo
Newcastle were recently reported to be interested in Stade Rennais striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, but now French outlet L'Équipe has reported that while Tottenham Hotspur aims to step up its efforts to land the 23-year-old, Newcastle and Bayer Leverkusen have not made a move beyond their initial enquiry.
Kalimuendo bagged 17 goals and four assists in 34 Ligue 1 games last season, so it wouldn't be too difficult to believe that Newcastle were interested.
However, it seems that Kalimuendo was just someone we gave a quick once-over, or it was another case of Newcastle being used to speed up another club's decision-making.

Newcastle are continuing to procrastinate in the transfer market
Newcastle are yet to make any breakthrough in the transfer market as Eddie Howe's pleas for a quick start in the transfer market go unanswered, so if there was a genuine interest by Newcastle, it's hardly a surprise that Spurs look likely to beat us to the move.
Once again, there's movement in the boardroom that could be directly affecting how Newcastle's transfer window will go.
Why aren't we allowed nice things?
