Aston Villa are reportedly 'leading the race' for £30m-rated Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott, who is likely to leave Anfield this summer in order to pursue a more regular supply of first-team game time.
Elliott, who is currently away representing England under 21s at the European Championships in Slovakia, spoke recently of how he knows that he must be playing more regular football, something which is far from guaranteed with the champions, who secured their second Premier League title under new boss Arne Slot last season.
The midfielder, who was formerly of Fulham, has found himself behind the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis MacAllister, Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones this summer. They're also closing in on the signing of Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen, increasing competition in that area of the pitch further.
Elliott has admitted that he might have to make a call on his situation this summer. He said: "It's just a situation that me and the team have to have a conversation about because I'm coming into an age now where I'm 22, I'm going to be 23 next season.
"I don't really want to be wasting years on my career because it's a short career. You don't know what's going to happen. I need to reflect. I need to see if I'm content in doing what I'm doing and how can I improve as a player because that's the most important thing.
"I just want to improve and be the best possible version of myself. If that's to go somewhere else, then it's a decision that I'm going to have to make and I just need to see what happens. Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club, I love the fans, the team. I support them as well. But most importantly, it's just about what's best for my career."
The Sunday Mirror claim that Villa lead the race; they could oversee a change in their own midfield department this summer, with interest in Jacob Ramsey, Morgan Rogers and, from abroad, Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana. Boubacar Kamara, who has two years remaining on his contract, is yet to commit to a new long-term deal.
