Newcastle United are remaining calm despite rumours that a £100million bid could come from Liverpool for Anthony Gordon this summer. Insiders at the club have indicated to Chronicle Live that there's been no internal suggestion the England international will be sold in the coming months. Newcastle won't consider any lowball offers for their players as they aim to keep their star performers this summer despite a challenging PSR situation.
The Magpies do have some flexibility in the transfer window and funds available, but manager Eddie Howe will be operating within a set budget. Newcastle are aiming to present a clean set of accounts ahead of the PSR health check deadline on 30 June, before the real transfer activity begins in July. By then, several high earners may have left, providing more room for manoeuvre.
However, with pre-season training just three weeks away and not a single new senior signing yet, there is a sense of urgency. For Gordon to move to Liverpool, it would require a substantial offer from the Reds and a push from the player's representatives, resulting in what could be Newcastle's largest ever sale.
At the moment, Newcastle's biggest ever exits are Elliot Anderson and Andy Carroll at £35m. But any potential exit for Gordon would need to be more than double this figure during the summer, with Newcastle sources suggesting no approach has been made as yet.
Joao Pedro is a player Newcastle are looking to sign to improve their attack. But Brighton are insistent that they will only part with Pedro for a sum exceeding £60m, and so far, Newcastle have not made such an offer. In line with Bryan Mbeumo's wage demands, Newcastle have their limits and will not disturb their pay structure if the price isn't suitable.
Just last summer, United went as high as £70m for Marc Guehi with Crystal Palace until the Magpies withdrew from negotiations when the situation became unfeasible. Newcastle once again sense they're being charged a "Saudi tax" that makes obtaining a fair deal nearly unattainable.
In other news, Martin Dubravka's agent is said to be scouting the market with the 36-year-old keeper keen to secure regular playing time ahead of the 2026 World Cup rather than settling for a backup role in the 2025/26 season.
For Newcastle, there's a silver lining as the club is set to obtain a return on their investment for the experienced goalkeeper following his decision to prolong his contract last January.
After several near departures from Newcastle, including a failed loan to Manchester United, it appears that Dubravka's tenure on Tyneside is drawing to a close.
It's understood that his agent has been in talks with Saudi Pro League clubs and a number of European teams seeking an experienced goalkeeper.
Despite John Ruddy being out of contract, Newcastle currently have a plethora of goalkeeping options. A transfer for James Trafford is still under consideration.
