Liverpool have opened discussions with a highly-rated young winger as they explore options to potentially replace Luis Diaz this summer.
The Colombian’s future at Anfield is increasingly uncertain, with strong interest from both Barcelona and Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.
While Liverpool aren’t actively pushing him out, they haven’t offered him a new deal either.
With two years left on his contract (until 2027) and no clear signal from the club, this summer could bring serious movement if a strong offer arrives.
Reds are taking a proactive approach under Arne Slot, quietly mapping out succession plans in key positions. One of those plans appears to be already underway.

Liverpool moves early for a potential Luis Diaz replacement
According to Loic Tanzi, Liverpool have now opened talks with the representatives of Malick Fofana, the 20-year-old Belgian winger currently at Lyon.
Fofana was a standout performer in 2024–25, scoring 11 goals and providing 3 assists across 41 appearances in all competitions. That includes 5 goals in Ligue 1 and 6 more in the Europa League.
Technically gifted and comfortable on either wing, Fofana thrives in transition — a style that fits Slot’s system perfectly. He’s aggressive on the ball, presses with energy, and brings a creative edge in the final third.
Liverpool aren’t the only club tracking him either. Chelsea have also shown interest in recent months, keeping tabs on his progress since his move from Gent to Lyon.
Fofana is under contract until 2028, with a current market value of around €30 million, and rising interest from top clubs could spark a bidding race.
While no bid has been submitted yet, Liverpool’s early move to open talks signals genuine intent.
Whether it ends in a transfer or not, the message is clear: the club is thinking ahead and preparing for life beyond Diaz.
