“Everything is done”–Sky Sports journalist drops massive update that Liverpool fans will love

**Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has now dropped a massive new update regarding one of Liverpool’s key pieces of summer transfer business.**

The Reds’ pursuit of Florian Wirtz has emerged as one of the most exciting potential signings in years, with the German considered by some as one of the world’s best players.

Assuming Wirtz does join Liverpool this summer, he will smash Liverpool’s transfer record, and now a major new update has dropped regarding the situation.

Taking to [_X_](https://x.com/Plettigoal/status/1934894585907425703) on Tuesday morning, Plettenberg claimed that the 22-year-old will be unveiled as a new Reds player on Friday of this week:

_“The announcement of the Florian Wirtz transfer is planned for Friday. Everything is done and sealed – medical has been booked.”_

**Liverpool’s biggest signing since Van Dijk?**

-----------------------------------------------

Some signings feel more significant than others, given their status as world-class footballers, and exactly that applies with Wirtz, who could be a game-changer of an addition for Liverpool for many years to come.

In fact, there is an argument to say that the Bayer Leverkusen star is the most exciting addition the Reds have made since Virgil van Dijk back in January 2018, with [Xabi Alonso](https://anfieldindex.com/83078/alonso-on-wirtz-the-messi-like-trait-liverpool-need.html) even likening him to Lionel Messi, saying:

_“There are good players and there are players who look good on the pitch. The player who looks good does things that are nice, but not necessarily efficient. Why is Messi so good? Because he knows how and when to play simple passes. Messi says: ‘you’re in a better position? Here, there you have the ball!’ It’s not always about making the most brilliant move, but the best and smartest. Florian can do that. That’s why he’s so good.”_

There is always a risk that a huge signing can end up being a disappointment – Naby Keita stands out, in that respect, although injuries didn’t help him – but Wirtz has all the tools to be sensational in a Liverpool shirt.

At 22, Wirtz has already achieved so much in his career, not least winning the Bundesliga title with Leverkusen in 2023/24, and he can further improve, become one of the best players of his generation.
