Nottingham Forest are reported to have entered the race to sign Goztepe striker Romulo.
Adding more firepower to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad is a priority for the Reds this summer. Igor Jesus looks set to make the switch to the City Ground from Botafogo after the Club World Cup, but it seems he is not the only Brazilian forward Forest are keen on.
Jesus’ countryman Romulo is currently plying his trade in Turkey with Goztepe. However, his future is the subject of much speculation and he could be on the move in the coming weeks.
The Reds have “been in contact” with the 23-year-old in recent days, according to Brazilian publication UOL. Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to have done the same as both Premier League clubs attempt to gate-crash RB Leipzig’s attempts to snap up the player.
Leipzig are reportedly still in talks about signing Romulo. The fact they were first in the queue makes the German outfit the “preferred choice” for his signature, but a delay in reaching an agreement is said to have led Goztepe to “evaluate other offers”.
The Turkish club’s stance has opened the door for Forest and Wolves. Both teams are said to have asked for information about Romulo’s valuation and the terms of a deal.
Other admirers have also made themselves known. The Brazilian is said to have received approaches from teams in Europe and from Botafogo, in his homeland.
Leipzig are willing to spend more than €12 million (£10m) to sign Romulo. Goztepe are said to be “in a hurry” to sort out the player’s situation.
Romulo came up through the ranks at Athletico Paranaense then joined Goztepe, initially on loan, in February 2024. His move was made permanent in January of this year, in the middle of a season in which he scored 17 goals and chipped in with 10 assists from 33 appearances.
Signing a striker has been on the agenda for Forest in the past two transfer windows but without success. They are eager to put that right this time around as they prepare to compete in the UEFA Conference League next term.
Jesus has already confirmed he will link up with the Reds after the Club World Cup. Brentford’s Yoane Wissa also remains on Forest’s radar after they had a bid for the Bees ace rebuffed in January.
