Trent Alexander-Arnold sparks fresh Liverpool backlash after Real Madrid training session

Trent Alexander-Arnold has incited further wrath from Liverpool fans after saying he wasn’t used to the “high-quality” training sessions he’s experienced so far at Real Madrid. The right-back is currently in America with his new side, who are preparing for their opening Club World Cup game against Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal on Wednesday.

Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave Anfield this summer has already divided opinion on Merseyside. He was booed by Liverpool fans on his first appearance after confirming his decision, with fans later condemned by former manager Jurgen Klopp. Club anger over not receiving a fee was appeased by the La Liga giants paying £8.4million to get him released early for the FIFA tournament.

Upon his unveiling in the Spanish capital, Alexander-Arnold spoke nigh-on perfect Spanish in a prepared statement. That didn’t go well with supporters of his former club, who accused him of having planned his move to Madrid for months.

He’s now under fire again after taking part in training in Miami. Speaking to his club’s official social media channels, he was asked how he found the squad sessions.

"High quality,” he replied. “The ball moves very fast. It's different from what I'm used to, but it's good. I'm enjoying the change and being part of it. I'm happy to be here."

On X, the @AnfieldEdition account posted his comments and added: “What’s he talking about?! The disrespect is unreal. @endocontent responded by saying: “The arrogance.”

@RightQues posted: “Taking digs at Liverpool? What a toxic player. Liverpool fans were right to be mad at him. No shame and no honour.” @FootballMill echoed the sentiments of many fans by saying: “Just forget Trent and move on. Let's not keep him in the headlines.”

The 26-year-old is expected to start for Real against Al-Hilal on Wednesday evening. Madrid will also play Mexican side Pachuca and Austrian team Red Bull Salzburg in their group games.
