Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada believes new signing Matheus Cunha could prove to be "Eric Cantona-esque" following his switch to Old Trafford.

United unveiled Cunha as their first signing of the summer last Thursday, signing him on a five-year deal, with the option of an additional year.

United reached an agreement with Wolves to sign him on June 1 after triggering his £62.5million release clause.

Scoring 17 goals in all competitions in 2024/25, the Brazilian will add goals and creativity to the Reds' blunt attack. He is expected to operate as the left-sided No.10.

Outlining what Cunha will bring to Old Trafford, Berrada is optimistic he will make a telling impact.

"He's a player that I think fans are going to love," Berrada told United We Stand. "We can talk about his technical abilities and he can play in three different positions.

"He's a playmaking attacking midfielder; he can score goals, he can make assists. I think he's going to lift people off their seats.

"He's got a bit of a swagger about him that people are going to really like. Dare I say, Cantona-esque."

United identified Cunha as one of their top targets for this summer's transfer window several months ago, mindful of the fact his £62.5m release clause was an advantage in their quest to get a deal done relatively easily.

Berrada continued: "He was an important one to get done. We're going to do our best to do more signings quickly.

"Sometimes when you're not quick, it's because you're negotiating and you're trying to make sure you get the right value for money. So being efficient or quick isn't necessarily the best thing for the club."

On United's hopes for the summer, Berrada added: "We've put ourselves in the best position possible by doing everything that we've had this year around cost-cutting.

"I'm confident that we will come out of the window with a much stronger team than what we've gone into."
