Disappointing
June 17th, 2025
Too harsh?
If this is the standard for disappointing, folks have the wrong target.
The crowd at The 33rd Team decided to rank the most disappointing player on each team. Strangely, the publication believes Jamel Dean is the most disappointing player on the Bucs.
Now this is where Joe’s disconnect between himself and a lot of fans come into play. Joe doesn’t think Dean is that bad of a corner. Joe guesses if you value accidents by quarterbacks (picks) more than solid defensive play, then yeah, Joe can see where folks cannot stand Dean.
But what is the biggest hangup for Dean? Joe thinks he plays fine… when he’s on the field. And that’s the catch, Dean is off the field too much, too many injuries.
For example, the Bucs were 1-4 last year when Dean missed a start. Coincidence? Joe doesn’t think so.
So if Dean is the team’s biggest disappointment because he misses games, how then does SirVocea Dennis get a pass? Since he was drafted in 2023, Dennis has missed 17 games with injuries (and not just his shoulder).
We saw what the Bucs’ pass defense in the interior was like without Dennis. It was pretty rank. So in Joe’s eyes, if injuries are the barometer of disappointing players, it’s not Dean, it’s Dennis.
Joe hopes Dennis (and Dean) stay on the field this fall. Joe thinks the Bucs are really rolling the dice, banking on Dennis to play, say, 15 games.
(And since The 33rd Team has players from teams that have left since last year on this list, see: Seattle, then how could they put Dean on this list over Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, a former first-round pick of the Bucs?)
