Newcastle United agree three-year contract with striker

Newcastle United have handed out a new contract.

Newcastle United have agreed a new contract with one of their brightest young talents.

As per the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, 18-year-old striker Sean Neave has signed a new three-year contract after breaking into the first-team last season.

Neave scored 11 goals in 12 matches for the academy at under-18s and under-21s league level last term and as a reward was drafted into Eddie Howe’s senior squad, regularly training at Benton and occasionally being named in the matchday squad.

He was first drafted into the squad for the FA Cup fourth round win away to Birmingham City in February following an injury to Anthony Gordon. And although he is yet to make his debut, Neave walked away with a Carabao Cup winners medal after being named on the bench for the 2-1 win over Liverpool in the final at Wembley.

Neave featured in the squad nine times in total and will hope for more experience next season after extending his stay at his boyhood club.

Sean Neave signs new contract at Newcastle United

“Sean Neave has signed a new three-year contract with Newcastle,” Craig Hope wrote on X. “I’ve heard lots of good things about the striker, who only turned 18 last month. Staff think a lot of him Expect to see England youth star around first team again this summer.”

It comes a year after Neave signed his first professional contract. Speaking then, Neave said: “I’m really happy about signing my first professional contract with the club,” he said. “Ever since I was young, it’s been my dream to play for Newcastle United so to sign a professional deal here is surreal.

“I was really pleased to make my debut for the under-21s as it means next year, I can push on and try to make a few more appearances and hopefully score a few goals. Making my international debut was a really proud moment for me and my family. Playing for your country is one of the biggest things in football and I’m hoping that, next season, I can gain more appearances for England.

“I’m more than happy about my goals this season at under-18 level and I was really pleased to be the top goalscorer at the club. I’m hoping I can push on, score a few more next season and be up there with the top goalscorers in the league."

Eddie Howe praises Sean Neave

Assessing Neave’s impact on the training ground, Howe said: “We have used him in various roles but what I will say is he is a goalscorer. We find in training and practice games he will pop up with a goal which is a great skill to have.

“He’s doing very well. He’s very young and I need reminding of that sometimes because he is competing on an even field technically. Physically, he has a lot of growth to come, he has to fill out his body. He has to become stronger. It is probably now about finding him a set position.”
