Tebas on Barcelona’s pursuit of Joan Garcia, Nico Williams – ‘It’s one thing to officially…

La Liga president Javier Tebas has issued a warning to FC Barcelona regarding the registration of goalkeeper Joan Garcia (Espanyol) and the club’s financial capacity to sign Nico Williams (Athletic Club).

Tebas made the comments during a visit to the new Esade Campus in Madrid on Tuesday morning.

Barcelona have all but completed the signing of Joan Garcia, with La Liga having confirmed to Espanyol the receipt of his release clause amount.

Only an official announcement of the transfer remains but Tebas stated that while completing the signing is one thing, getting him registered will be a whole other thing, although he insisted Barça know what they need to do to get it done.

“It’s one thing to officially sign Joan Garcia and another to register him. Barça have to do things to be able to register him, not much, but they have to do things and they know what they are, but we’re not even on dates, we’ll see…,” he said.

Barcelona are also trying to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club this summer and have emerged as the frontrunners to secure his services ahead of clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea.

When asked whether the La Liga champions have the financial means to pay the €62 million clause for the 22-year-old winger, Tebas stated:

“I don’t know, but in the end we hear so many: Williams, another one, and son on… First of all, let’s see if what they are going to register is true, which I don’t know.”

Tebas insisted that it must not be forgotten that Barcelona are still not in the 1:1 Financial Fair Play role yet.

The La Liga president, though, was more positive when speaking about Lamine Yamal, saying the young Barcelona star had done enough to deserve a Ballon d’Or – an achievement that, in his view, would raise La Liga’s international prestige.
