Liverpool are now reportedly pushing to sign a world-renowned star who leaves defenders “speechless”, with two Reds players potentially heading the other way.
The Premier League champions have already replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold with Jeremie Frimpong this summer, while left-back Milos Kerkez is almost certain to join from Bournemouth.
Florian Wirtz will reportedly become a Liverpool player later this week, with a medical possibly taking place on Friday, at which point attention may turn to a new No.9.
Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota both struggled to impress for the Reds last season, with the former wasteful in front of goal and the latter injury-prone, so it would be a surprise if a striker didn’t come in.
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have “made a move” to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Galatasaray.
It is claimed that the Reds are willing to sell both Federico Chiesa and Nunez to the Serie A winners, with neither having futures at Anfield.
Osimhen could be sensational for Liverpool
Osimhen is among Europe’s top strikers currently, having scored a combined 113 goals in 177 appearances for Napoli and Galatasaray.
For that reason, the Nigerian could be a fantastic signing for the Reds, with Turkish football pundit Ali Ece heaping praise on the effect he has on defenders, saying:
“Galatasaray is being led to victory by Victor Osimhen. Everyone else other than Osimhen is a supporting player. When defenders see Osimhen, they are speechless. I read the comments of Manchester United fans, they see Osimhen as a saviour.”
Osimhen would come in as an immediate upgrade on both Nunez and Jota, proving to be a great foil for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Wirtz, with his powerful style of play perfect for the Premier League.
There is interest in the 26-year-old from the Saudi Pro League, with their financial clout having the potential to turn his head, but surely the idea of moving to one of Europe’s top teams right now would appeal more.
As for Chiesa and Nunez, this summer feels like the right time for both to move on, with neither cutting the mustard in a Liverpool shirt.
