Chelsea to sell recent Sheffield United loan ace, Championship clubs keen

Sheffield United loan man Alfie Gilchrist is set to be sold by Chelsea with Championship clubs showing strong interest, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Sheffield United had defender Alfie Gilchrist on loan for the 2024/25 campaign, bringing him in from Chelsea. He provided SUFC with an option at both right-back and centre-back, though he played almost entirely in the former role.

It served as a valuable experience for the 21-year-old, despite struggling to reclaim his place in the side after picking up an ankle injury in February.

Gilchrist’s Blades stay has since ended and the youngster is now back at Chelsea, though it seems their plan is for him to move on from Stadium Bridge for good.

Writing on X, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano states that recent Sheffield United loan man Gilchrist will be allowed to leave Chelsea on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window.

With the door open for him to move onto pastures new, strong interest from the Championship has emerged and several options are being considered.

It is not said whether SUFC are among them, though the impending departure of Chris Wilder would likely cast doubt over such a return, unless the ownership are keen on a deal.
