Brentford target insists no issue with manager – Lack of starting role not a problem

Brentford target Antoni Milambo has admitted he’s not pushing to play for Netherlands U21s at the European Championship this summer.

[1908.nl cover comments](https://1908.nl/artikelen/milambo-kreeg-geen-uitleg-van-reiziger-gewoon-hard-werken-en-het-laten-zien) from the Feyenoord midfielder today, as he continues to be left on the sidelines by the Netherlands so far.

He’s a part of the Dutch squad taking part in the tournament, which has proven to be a dramatic one for them so far. They drew against Finland in the opening game and then lost to Denmark on Sunday. They now need a win against Ukraine in their last group game to avoid elimination.

Milambo is yet to play a real part so far, playing a bit part in both games but failing to secure a starting role under Michael Reiziger.

That’s disappointing for the 20-year-old, who could have used a starring role at this tournament to firm up transfer efforts for him.

He’s long been linked with a move to Brentford, who have been moving for more than a month to secure his signature from Feyenoord. The latest on that, from six days ago, saw Brentford sending a delegation to Feyenoord over the weekend to get a deal done. There was confidence it would be.

He insists he won’t be speaking to Reiziger, though, and is just happy to be a part of the squad and playing his part.

_“He didn’t say anything,”_ he said.

_“I just do my best and try to help those guys. Even when I come on as a substitute, I try to bring energy, especially when things aren’t going so well._

_“Other than that, I don’t really have anything to say. Just work hard and show it. Of course, I think every player wants to play. Ultimately, it’s up to the coach who he puts in.”_
