Arsenal Should Hijack Aston Villa Deal And Sign£38m Chelsea Star Rather Than Marc Guehi–Opinion

Arsenal should try and sign Chelsea defender Axel Disasi this summer rather than Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

The Gunners have plenty of positions of priority this summer, none more so than the striker spot, where they are likely to add either Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko.

Arsenal are also set to improve in midfield and on the wings, however, they don’t really need to bring in new starters in defence. The centre-back pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel is one of the best in the Premier League, which makes it confusing that the Gunners have been linked to signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Guehi was wanted by Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham in January, however, reports have since said that Arsenal want to sign him. It is understandable that the Gunners want more depth in defence behind Saliba and Gabriel, but Guehi would be a starter surely, so the move wouldn’t make sense.

Arsenal should sign Chelsea’s Axel Disasi instead

If it is squad depth in defence that Mikel Arteta is looking for, then he should instead look at Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.

He didn’t travel with Chelsea to the Club World Cup, and looks set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. According to a report by Birmingham World, Aston Villa have been told that Disasi can leave Chelsea this summer after they only bought him from AS Monaco for £38m in 2023.

Arsenal should instead hijack Villa potentially signing him permanently and bring him in as a depth option in defence. It means that if Saliba or Gabriel suffer injuries, as they did this season, the Gunners have a competent and experienced option to bring in behind them.

He would be much cheaper than Guehi, who saw bids rejected for him amounting to £70m in January. But it would give Disasi a new start, and Arsenal some much-needed depth for a reasonable price and wage.
