Dan Burn cemented his legacy on Tyneside when Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup.
He played a pivotal role in the final too, with Dan Burn scoring Newcastle’s opening goal against Liverpool with one of the best headers you will ever see.
The 33-year-old has been living in dreamland ever since. That continued on Sunday night when Burn went on stage during Sam Fender’s St James’ Park gig. He was not alone either, bringing the Carabao Cup trophy with him.
Dan Burn’s rise has never stopped since signing for Newcastle United in January 2022. He was particularly brilliant this season, helping the Magpies end their trophy drought and qualify for the Champions League.
However, neither produced his happiest moment in football.

Dan Burn’s ‘happiest’ moment was getting called up for England
Instead, that came when Burn was named in the England squad by Thomas Tuchel.
The centre-back has won two caps for his country, and detailed the process of finding out he was in the squad during an appearance on the High Performance podcast.
“Just to even be considered, I was so proud of it,” he said.

“Then I got a text saying ‘are you awake’, so straight away I was like ‘yes’. Then he [Tuchel] rang and was like ‘how unprofessional is this? 10:30 and you’re not in bed. Anthony Barry was right. Such an unprofessional person’.
“Then he said ‘I’ve been video calling everyone who hasn’t made the squad, so it’s been a pretty thorough day’. He was like ‘I needed to leave a good bit at the end, so we’re calling you up’.
“I was buzzing. Honestly, genuinely like probably the happiest I have ever been in football.”
Will Dan Burn go to the 2026 World Cup?
Since becoming England manager, Tuchel has named Burn in both of his squads. He has handed the defender two caps, with Burn picking up two wins and two clean sheets from his Three Lions appearances.
Both of his appearances have been in World Cup qualifiers, with England yet to book their place at next year’s tournament. They are on track to do just that however, winning all three of their qualifiers so far.
Assuming England do qualify, Burn is certainly in contention. Tuchel has taken a shine to Burn, while his contract with the FA only runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup. The former Chelsea boss is looking at players with the World Cup in mind, so Burn is definitely in the conversation.
Going to the World Cup would be another milestone for Burn, who admitted in March: “Every little kid’s dream is to play in a World Cup.”
That dream could potentially be realised in America, Canada and Mexico next summer.
