Real Madrid have snubbed the chance to snap up Arsenal's target Viktor Gyokeres this summer.

The sought-after striker is eyeing a fresh start, following another goal-laden season with Sporting Lisbon. The 27-year-old hitman banged in 54 goals in 52 outings across all competitions, helping Sporting clinch both the Primeira Liga and the Taca de Portugal.

And according to The Mirror, Gyokeres has his heart set on a switch to Arsenal over other suitors, but a row between him and Sporting could put the brakes on any transfer.

Sporting have rubbished claims of a 'gentleman's agreement' for Gyokeres to depart for £60 million, with the club's president Frederico Varandas lambasting the player's representative. "I want to make one thing clear: we at Sporting have common sense.

"We said two things (at the start of the season): that we would not demand €100million and that the value would depend on the performance of Viktor.

"How did he perform? Sixty-three goals, 17 assists (for club and country), fantastic form, one of the best seasons in the history of Portuguese football.

"Even then, Sporting will not demand his release clause. But people should know that threats, blackmail and insults will not work with me. I can guarantee one thing: Viktor Gyokeres won't leave here for €60m plus €10m in add-ons.

"He won't, and the game the agent is playing will only make the situation worse. As of now, we haven't had one offer for him," reports the Mirror.

Madrid are on the hunt for a fresh striker and had the chance to snap up Gyokeres. However, The Athletic revealed, while the Swede has fans at the Bernabeu, his price tag is a bit steep for their taste.

Los Blancos are after a No.9 who can be a super sub for Kylian Mbappe, offering a bit of aerial prowess when the game's down to the wire. Joselu filled those boots in 2023-24, but they've been left wanting since he left.

Gyokeres has responded to rumours that he might down tools to push a move, taking to Instagram to say: "There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right."

What's next for Gyokeres is still up in the air, with Arsenal also eyeing up Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins. The Gunners haven't made any signings in the transfer market yet this summer, but boss Mikel Arteta has teased supporters with promises of a "big summer" ahead.
