After years of questionable decisions and missed opportunities, the Carolina Panthers appear to have found direction under new leadership.
Their offseason approach reflects a clear understanding of roster weaknesses and a systematic plan to address them.
The Panthers executed well in free agency and made solid selections in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Most glaring needs have been addressed, but one position remains unsettled.
According to beat writer Sheena Marie, Carolina may have found their answer.
“I’m told by a league source that the Panthers talked to Justin Simmons’ representatives but nothing is imminent,” Marie wrote.

Adding Simmons would create an interesting connection between Carolina and Atlanta.
The Falcons signed former Panthers safety Jordan Fuller earlier this offseason to a one-year, $1.3 million deal with minimal guarantees.
Fuller managed zero interceptions last season while appearing in just nine games, making his roster spot far from secure.
Simmons experienced his own late-summer drama last year.
He remained unsigned until mid-August before the Atlanta Falcons finally offered him a one-year, $7.5 million contract.
The fully guaranteed deal included a $4.75 million signing bonus, but the timing was unusual for a player of his caliber.
The veteran safety’s situation has grown more complicated this offseason.
Atlanta carries a $3.2 million cap hit from Simmons despite his departure, thanks to void years built into his previous contract.
Meanwhile, the Falcons drafted Notre Dame safety Xavier Watts in the third round, signaling their intention to move forward without Simmons.
Carolina’s interest makes sense given their secondary needs.
Simmons brings proven production and veteran leadership to a defense still finding its identity.
Whether negotiations advance beyond preliminary discussions remains unclear, but the Panthers have shown they’re willing to complete their roster construction with targeted additions.
