Darwin Nunez’s Liverpool future has been a topic that has often been brought up by fans and pundits alike this season.
The striker didn’t have the best campaign of his career during the 2024-25 season with the Uruguay international arguably being one of Arne Slot’s worst attackers.
Others such as Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah had to pick up the pieces and ensure that they overperformed so that Liverpool would be able to win the Premier League title.

Indeed, Nunez has never been one of the Anfield outfit’s best attackers but his output from the 2024-25 campaign seems to have been the final straw with Liverpool now looking to sell the former Benfica man.
Darwin Nunez may not leave Liverpool as Napoli agree terms with another striker
One of the many teams linked with an interest in Nunez has been Napoli.
The Serie A side are coming off the back of yet another impressive season where they managed to beat the likes of Inter Milan and Atalanta to the title.
Napoli’s interest in Nunez has been well-documented but as per a report from Luca Bendoni via Liverpool World, it seems like the deal may be off.
“Napoli are exploring a move for Darwin Nunez and have held contacts with player’s camp, understanding that Darwin would be open to negotiate a deal,” he said.

“On the other hand, Napoli are also negotiating with Udinese for striker Lorenzo Lucca, who already has a verbal agreement in principle on personal terms with Napoli – but no club-side agreement at this stage.
“So Darwin can also be a name.”

Liverpool must try and sell Darwin Nunez this summer
If there’s one player that Liverpool should try and offload this summer it’s Nunez.
The striker has been given plenty of chances to prove his worth to the club and to be honest, he’s left a lot to be desired.
His final third form is inconsistent at best and even when he does have a good game, it’s only one in every five or six when he actually performs.

Clubs from the Saudi Pro League are also interested in acquiring Nunez’s services, so, if his desired move to Napoli doesn’t end up working out, there are other options on the table.
And, if Liverpool want to add a couple of new faces to their ranks after Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, they’re going to have to sell some of their talent.
Indeed, this could mean some fan-favourites end up making their way out of Anfield but in the grand scheme of things, selling some of these players could be the only way to keep Liverpool competitive.
That is, especially with all the money their title rivals are spending.
