Arsenal 'decide next transfer' after Sesko or Gyokeres as two players shortlisted

Arsenal don’t have any plans to slow down their transfer activity after securing a striker this summer, with the Gunners believed to be eyeing up two potential winger options. It’s being touted as a summer transfer window Arsenal can’t afford to get wrong, given they’ve finished as runners-up in each of the previous three seasons.

While they’re yet to make significant progress on the striker front, both Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have emerged as genuine options for the capital side. The expectation is that Arsenal will put pen to paper on a deal for at least one of them, having previously opted out of pursuing a centre-forward in previous transfer windows.

But according to The Athletic, Arsenal are expected to turn their attention to wide forwards after bagging a striker this summer. It’s believed Mikel Arteta is keen to add a winger capable of challenging Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli for minutes, while improving the overall level of Arsenal’s squad to allow them to compete across multiple fronts.

The outlet are reporting that Rodrygo, who has already been touted with a move to the Emirates Stadium this window, and Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon are admired by Arsenal’s transfer chiefs. Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton for £45million and will likely demand a hefty fee from the Magpies.

Arsenal’s hopes of landing the Englishman could be made difficult, considering Newcastle qualified for the Champions League via fifth place. An entry route Arsenal and fellow Premier League sides helped to make possible because of their performances in Europe last season.

The news will delight former Arsenal ace Ray Parlour, who called on Arteta to add a winger to his squad this summer. Speaking shortly after the transfer window ended, he explained: "A winger would still be great to cover Saka and Martinelli. [A deal for Martin] Zubimendi appears to be getting closer.”

The former Highbury fans’ favourite didn’t relent on what he thought Arsenal’s priority should be though, adding: "But the striker is the most important position for me. Obviously, [Benjamin] Sesko has been well linked and he looks a good, young player. Very strong, quick and knows where the back of the net is, so he’d be a great addition."

The second part of the transfer window is now open for business and will run until September 1. Arsenal’s Premier League campaign will get underway three weeks earlier on the weekend of August 16.
