Newcastle sign three England youth talents to new deals – Official statement

Newcastle United are yet to make a major signing this summer, but progress has been made on keeping young and senior stars on Tyneside.

After new deals for Fabian Schar and Dan Burn were secured in recent months, the club have now announced that three of our top Under-21 talents have signed new contracts.

News of a deal for 18-year-old forward Sean Neave emerged earlier today, but a club statement has now revealed a total of three England youth stars who have put pen to paper.

Newcastle United have announced that highly-rated youngsters Trevan Sanusi and Leo Shahar have signed new deals at the club alongside Sean Neave.

All three are England Under-18 internationals and the trio thought to be closest to breaking into Eddie Howe’s first team plans, as we reported on Monday.

Neave was named on the bench regularly over the final weeks of the 2024/25 Premier League season, while Sanusi (winger) and Shahar (right-back) have shone at Under-21 level since signing their first pro deals last May.

A club statement reads: ‘Newcastle United is pleased to confirm that Academy trio Sean Neave, Leo Shahar and Trevan Sanusi have signed new deals with the club.

Neave, who was named on the bench for United’s Carabao Cup final victory against Liverpool, joined the club’s Academy as a 13-year-old and signed his first professional deal with the club last summer.

He was named in a first-team matchday squad for the first time during Newcastle’s Emirates FA Cup fourth round victory against Birmingham City after impressing at youth level, where he scored two minutes into his full Premier League 2 debut for United’s under-21 side during a 3-1 away win against Leeds United in November 2024.

Shahar and Sanusi, who are both capped by England at under-18 level, signed their first professional contracts with the club in May 2024 following moves from Wolves and Birmingham City respectively.’

Reacting to the news, Academy Director Steve Harper said: “Sean, Leo and Trevan have shown great promise and we’re delighted to see them continue their journey with us.

“Each of them has shown great commitment and potential, and we look forward to supporting their development as they take the next steps in their careers.”

Three other post-takeover signings to our Academy have also been rewarded, with Sam Alabi, Michael Mills and Sammy Pinnington all agreeing first-year scholarships.Thomas Bryant’s scholarship has also been extended into a third year.

Alabi and Mills are both England Under-16 internationals who have been hugely impressive since arriving on Tyneside, with Alabi a skilful midfielder and Mills a pacey winger. Both will be looking to impress at Under-18 level next season.

On these deals, Harper added: “It’s always a proud moment to see young players progress their careers and earn their first professional contracts.

“The challenge now is to keep pushing, keep improving and make the most of the opportunities ahead but they should all take great pride in this recognition and use it as motivation for next season.”
