Arsenal respond to Lewis-Skelly Real Madrid transfer interest

Arsenal remain 'very calm' in the aftermath of Real Madrid's interest in Myles Lewis-Skelly, it has been claimed.

Reports have emerged that Los Blancos are keeping an eye on Lewis-Skelly's situation, with the 18-year-old's current contract set to expire in 2026. Real have been able to lure Kylian Mbappe, Trent Alexander-Arnold and David Alaba on free transfers in recent years, and they hope Lewis-Skelly can be the next.

The Hale End graduate enjoyed a fine breakthrough season at Arsenal after he was handed his debut against Manchester City last September. Lewis-Skelly went onto cement himself as their first-choice left-back ahead of Riccardo Calafiori, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney.

Lewis-Skelly was one of Arsenal's star performers during the Champions League quarter-final win against Real and it doesn't appear that Los Blancos have forgotten about that.

Providing an update on Lewis-Skelly's future, Fabrizio Romano told his YouTube channel on Monday: "There are stories of Real Madrid working on a deal, considering a deal, making contacts for Lewis-Skelly.

"Many rumours on Lewis-Skelly because the player is doing fantastic at Arsenal and it’s quite obvious to see this kind of stories when the player is out of contract in one year. A massive opportunity on the market when you look at that. Real Madrid are always attentive to opportunities."

Lewis-Skelly has 12 months left on his deal at Arsenal, who remain "very calm" and "very relaxed" about a potential departure for the England international, as Real eye up a move.

Romano added, with Arsenal reluctant to part with another highly-rated product of their academy system: "Arsenal are very calm, very relaxed, very confident and optimistic to get a deal done for Lewis-Skelly."

Arsenal began renewal talks back in January, and although they haven't reached an agreement yet, Lewis-Skelly is still expected to remain at the Emirates beyond next summer.

Arteta has often decided to praise Lewis-Skelly for his performances since emerging as Arsenal's left-back. The teenager made 39 appearances for the Gunners, scoring once, in 2024/25.

Speaking after Arsenal beat Tottenham in January, Arteta said: "When I saw him, to give him a chance and with the project that we had in the academy the moment that I saw him, the only way I could think was to change his position.

"I spoke to him and said I think this is where you’re going to have it, because I think it fits a lot of his qualities, the way that we play and it fits because we had necessities in the position, so we started to work on that. He got into it straight away with the personality that he has. I think it’s very obvious and now he’s doing it."
