Brighton paid €100K+ release clause for Japan International

[Leonardo Frenquelli](https://x.com/LeoFrenquelli/status/1934947173860245848) reports that Brighton & Hove Albion have paid the release clause for Japan international Moeka Minami from AS Roma, with an official announcement expected in the coming days. Brighton previously confirmed their list of departing players earlier in May, including Poppy Pattinson, Maria Thorisdottir, Guro Bergsvand, Dejana Stefanovic, and Pauline Bremer. As the focus shifts to next season, reinforcements need to be brought in.

Minami joined AS Roma in 2022 from Urawa Reds, where she spent five seasons. Upon signing her initial two-year contract, she said:

“This is my first adventure abroad. I am feeling so many emotions right now, but above all I am just so excited and delighted to be playing for AS Roma. I will do my absolute best to try and help the team be successful.”

Her first season with AS Roma was a huge success, as the club won both the Scudetto and the Supercoppa. In 2023, she was named one of the league’s best defenders and earned a contract extension in February 2024, keeping her at the club until 2026.

“I am very pleased to renew my contract with Roma. Since I arrived here two years ago, I’ve been able to grow thanks to the amazing support of my teammates, staff, and fans, with whom I have a great relationship,” said Moeka. “I want to continue growing with this team and give my best.”

The defender played 24 matches for AS Roma in the [2024/2025](https://womenfootball.blog/serie-a-femminile/) season, starting all the games, scoring three goals and contributing to another one with an assist.

Minami would add valuable experience and composure to Brighton & Hove Albion’s backline. Her consistent performances in both the Serie A and international competitions have proven her reliability and leadership. With top-level experience in Japan, Italy, and with the Japanese national team, she brings a blend of technical ability, tactical intelligence, and professionalism that could help solidify Brighton’s defense in the upcoming season.
