For Layer, this is also his third season coaching at Clarence, compiling a 42-6 record during that time. Several players from Lancaster represented the Buffalo Bills in the National Flag Football tournament in Canton Ohio in 2024. The team has also qualified for the NYS Scholar Athlete program the last three years.
"My coaching philosophy is to make flag football a rewarding and enriching experience for all of our players while building positive relationships with young people. We are out there to have fun while fielding a highly competitive team representing Clarence High School and our community in the most positive way," Layer said.
Layer credits the team culture built by the girls over the last few seasons as one of the biggest reasons why he enjoys coaching at Clarence.
"I think the most rewarding part of this season to me was seeing the returning players and brand new players mesh together to form this year's team," he said. " We had great experience returning but also many first year players played a vital role in this year's success. The team came together quickly and players filled their roles perfectly. The culture of our team was outstanding and that's what was most rewarding to me."
