**Eddie Howe is a big fan of promoting youngsters to the Newcastle United first team, with Lewis Miley the shining example of that.**
While Lewis Miley's rise into the first team was accelerated thanks to an injury crisis during the 2023/24 season, he's still kept his spot in and around the seniors, albeit in a much more reduced capacity, much to the frustration of many a Newcastle fan.
Last summer, we were all expecting Trevan Sanusi to be the next academy star to step up to the big time after some impressive performances in pre-season.
While it never happened for Sanusi due to injuries, he did make his first team debut in the FA Cup game against Bromley, but many fans agreed he still looked a way off from where we thought he'd be.

Newcastle United retain the services of three exciting youngsters
-----------------------------------------------------------------
However, despite that, Trevan Sanusi is among the trio of promising academy stars who have signed a new deal with the club, as confirmed via the [Newcastle United website today.](https://www.newcastleunited.com/en/news/academy-trio-commit-futures-to-newcastle-united)
Along with Sanusi are another couple of familiar names in the form of Leo Shahar, who has been spotted many times in training with the first team, and young striker Sean Neave, who can boast a Carabao Cup Winner's medal already without having played a single minute of first-team football.
Neave was on the bench for Newcastle at Wembley, and while he never played, it would have been quite harsh if he were the only player there not to be handed a medal.
We expect to see the young trio in action during pre-season
-----------------------------------------------------------
All three can consider themselves on the fringe of the first team after impressing Eddie Howe. Shahar and Neave will be desperately awaiting their first-team debuts, but we expect we'll see them in action in pre-season as Eddie Howe likes to give the kids a chance in the warm-up games.
Academy Director Steve Harper is delighted to have kept the trio at the club.
> "Sean, Leo and Trevan have shown great promise and we're delighted to see them continue their journey with us.
>
> "Each of them has shown great commitment and potential, and we look forward to supporting their development as they take the next steps in their careers."
