Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has a massive task of proving the doubters wrong next season
Who would be the next Tottenham manager following Ange Postecoglou’s departure? A million-dollar question everyone had after the Australian tactician was relieved from his duties at N17. Many fans speculated that Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner would get the chance to lead the Lilywhites going into next season. While other believed that Fulham coach Marco Silva would get the nod.
However, Daniel Levy went on a totally different route and appointed Brentford manager Thomas Frank as Big Ange’s successor. The Danish tactician was not a leading candidate for the job, but Levy thought that he was the right man to take the North London club forward following the Europa League success.
Daniel Levy decided to hire Thomas Frank as the next Tottenham manager after Ange Postecoglou's departure.
Daniel Levy decided to hire Thomas Frank as the next Tottenham manager after Ange Postecoglou’s departure.
Now, fans will hope that the decision to hire the 51-year-old does not backfire instantly and Daniel Levy gives Thomas Frank some time to adapt. The Spurs chairman has taken a huge risk by appointing the ex-Brentford boss as the new manager, as fans and the media will wait for something to go wrong so that they can criticise Levy’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou.
Simon Jordan believes Tottenham should not have appointed Thomas Frank
Many pundits and fans have already dismissed Thomas Frank’s chances of succeeding at Tottenham before a ball is kicked under the Dane’s tenure at N17. This just shows that most people are waiting for the 51-year-old to fail at Spurs, as many believe Big Ange was wrongly relieved from his duties following the Europa League success.
Even renowned pundit Simon Jordan believes that Spurs should have appointed Oliver Glasner as their new manager instead. Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan said,
“I would have gone in the Glasner direction. I’m sorry Crystal Palace fans but I would have gone that way. It’s a difficult one to contextualise about the upgrade because they’ve won something but Brentford have finished above them in the league and it becomes by which metric do you measure this upgrade?”

The pundit added,
“Clearly, they think it’s an upgrade otherwise Ange Postecoglou would still be in the job and this fellow wouldn’t be. It’s a very easy answer to give and both of us are giving it and we’ll find out. Again it’s by what metric. If you want your team at the upper end of the Premier League at all costs, then the answer probably is yes. If you want them to win something again, I don’t know. I don’t know.”
Simon Jordan suggested that Oliver Glasner was the perfect choice to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham. The talkSPORT pundit added that Daniel Levy believes hiring Thomas Frank is an upgrade on Big Ange as Brentford finished higher than Spurs in the Premier League. However, Jordan also insists that Frank will lead the Lilywhites to the top half of the league table next season, but he might not be the man to lead the club to any silverware going forward.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Thomas Frank during his time at Tottenham. Whilst many fans would believe Simon Jordan is taking sense, but it is also important to note that Oliver Glasner is at the start of a cycle at Crystal Palace. Whereas, Thomas Frank was already at the end of the seven-year stint at Brentford following his switch to Spurs. Point being… Daniel Levy would have found it tough to convince the Palace boss to leave Selhurst Park following the FA Cup success that the Eagles endured last season.
