Ruben Amorim has endured a difficult period since arriving at Manchester United in October.
While many anticipated a transitional spell for the Portuguese coach, few expected the challenges to mount as rapidly as they have.
The Red Devils finished a woeful 15th in the Premier League last season.
Behind the scenes, Amorim has struggled to assert his authority over a fractured dressing room.

Marcus Rashford was one of the first casualties of Amorim’s ruthless rebuild.
The Englishman was loaned to Aston Villa in January after being deemed surplus to requirements.
Alejandro Garnacho soon followed on that same path, and the 20-year-old is now expected to leave the club this summer.
Speaking on talkSPORT via Manchester Evening News, former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders has revealed Garnacho clashed with Amorim during training sessions, reportedly arguing with the manager over tactical decisions.
Saunders, speaking from a “good source,” said: “I like him as a player… but from a good source, I heard he’s arguing with the manager on the training pitch about tactics.
“How old is he, 20? Just get on with it.”

The former Wales international added that while he admires Garnacho’s talent and passion, character issues must be addressed at United to rebuild a functional team.
“Man United have signed bad characters… you’ve got to start signing good characters.
“Forget the talent. They’re shambolic at the moment.”
Garnacho, who had a £40million bid from Napoli rejected in January, is now being tracked by Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa.
He prefers to remain in England if sold.
Although interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid remains strong.
With two years left on his deal, United are holding out for around £70million.
A fee which would be logged as pure profit on their books due to his academy status.
