Manchester United’s defensive rebuild remains a top priority this summer as Ruben Amorim looks to reshape his backline.
The Red Devils endured a chaotic 2024/25 campaign, with injuries, lack of quality and poor form exposing major flaws across their defence.
While young stars Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven are seen as promising long-term solutions, Amorim is keen on adding further depth and experience to suit his demanding 3-4-2-1 system.

The Portuguese coach is believed to want defenders who are aggressive in duels, composed in possession, and tactically sharp.
Especially given the system’s reliance on agile centre-backs.
An area of recruitment that INEOS will need to get right this summer.
And now, United appear to have identified another possible option.
According to Le Quotidien, the club are showing an interest in Le Havre defender Arouna Sangante, who is also attracting attention from Nottingham Forest.
The 23-year-old, under contract until 2026, is valued at around €8m and could be available this summer as several clubs circle.

United have already signed a Le Havre prospect in Enzo Kana-Biyik and continue to keep close tabs on the French side’s emerging talents.
Sangante’s performances in Ligue 1 have drawn interest from across Europe.
Stuttgart, Augsburg, Sevilla and Marseille are all also monitoring his situation.
It’s not yet known whether United or Forest have made formal approaches.
However, the competition is certainly heating up.
With Amorim’s system requiring high-level performances from all three centre-backs, a move for Sangante could well provide much-needed stability and depth heading into the new season.
Sangante was previously of interest to United, going back to late 2023.
Chelsea and Manchester City were interested too, however nothing concrete materialised.
