How Newcastle feel about selling Anthony Gordon this summer as Liverpool links re-emerge

Liverpool are expecting an attacking overhaul at Anfield this summer.

The Reds are not messing about during the off-season and when they have identified a clear target, they appear to be frontrunners for his signature.

This is a huge juxtaposition with previous years as they are often linked with a wide variety of names, but they never seem to make the move happen.

Anthony Gordon was one of those they seemed desperate to sign last summer, but the move fell through while the European Championships were ongoing.

The former Evertonian, who happens to be a boyhood red, also appeared keen to make the switch happen, and with links re-emerging, he still has time to make his dream come true.

Of course, it would take a lot for it to happen but as seen so far this summer, Liverpool are not afraid of negotiating a tricky deal, although Newcastle clearly fancy their chances of fending off interest.

Newcastle are not worried about losing Anthony Gordon

PSR has been an issue for the Magpies since they were taken over by Saudi Arabian owners and they have previously been forced to sell players to balance the books.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, Newcastle appear to be safe from any potential issues this season, meaning they can sell players on their own terms rather than at a cut-price.

And, according to The Chronicle Live, they are confident of keeping hold of their scouser this summer, although a big bid could tempt them to sell.

Around £100m would likely be an offer they are willing to accept, but the Reds are yet to table a bid, something they could do in the coming weeks.

However, the Merseyside club will likely wait to see who departs as vacancies on the wing may open up, especially if Luis Diaz leaves for Barcelona, with an attacking overhaul expected.

The Chronicle Live also suggest that Liverpool will need to persuade the player’s representatives that the move will be worthwhile, with Gordon himself then having to express his desire to leave.

How do Anthony Gordon and Luis Diaz compare?

If Gordon does arrive at Anfield this summer, it will likely be at the expense of Diaz rather than Liverpool having both.

Statistically, the pair are very similar, although the Colombian has scored seven more goals this season, something he has improved upon since he joined the Reds in 2022.

Both are lightning quick and very skilful, although Diaz again probably just has the edge over the Englishman in both departments, suggesting Liverpool may be better off keeping hold of him.

The Colombian still has two years left on his deal and it would probably prove beneficial to keep him around until at least then, especially as it would save them a lot of money when trying to source a replacement.
