Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of a striker who sees Old Trafford as an ‘ideal step in his career’ amid the uncertainty around Viktor Gyokeres.
Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with Manchester United and the 27-year-old Sporting CP striker played a key role under Ruben Amorim at the Portuguese club.
The Sporting CP forward has made a real name for himself at the Estadio Jose Alvalade and Gyokeres has also attracted transfer interest from Arsenal.
Gyokeres is believed to be pushing for a move away from Sporting, but the Primeira Liga side are playing hardball over any negotiations for their leading talisman.
The United-linked striker has a hefty £85m release clause in his contract, but it has previously been suggested that Sporting could allow Gyokeres to leave for £59m.
Gyokeres and Sporting reportedly agreed on the £59m valuation last summer, but club president Frederico Varandas has since come out and dismissed the agreement.

Man Utd’s transfer interest in Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic has turned up a notch amid links to Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres
According to Football Transfers, Manchester United are now poised to make a move for Juventus and Serbia striker Dusan Vlahovic in the summer transfer window.
Dusan Vlahovic has been linked with United in recent months and the 25-year-old Serbian striker will be out of contract with the Old Lady next summer.
Football Transfers reports that ‘direct talks’ have been held between United and Vlahovic’s representatives and the Juventus star is keen to quit the Serie A club.
Vlahovic sees the Premier League as a ‘dream destination’ and the reported talks between United and his representatives were ‘positive and constructive.’
The publication claimed that Vlahovic’s camp was ‘approached’ by the Red Devils and United have ‘intensified’ their efforts to sign a striker for Ruben Amorim.

Juventus are open to cashing in on Dusan Vlahovic and the Serie A club are prepared to let the Serbia international leave to free up their wages.
Football Transfers has suggested Vlahovic, who arrived at Juventus from Fiorentina in 2022, likes the project that United manager Amorim is building at Old Trafford.
The former Fiorentina forward is ‘motivated by the idea’ of playing for Amorim and is ‘more open’ to carrying his career on in a ‘physically demanding league.’
It is believed Vlahovic is ‘one of the most viable alternatives’ to Gyokeres and United could sign the Juventus star for ‘around €45million’ this summer.
Vlahovic, who arrived at the Allianz Stadium after a £66.6m transfer, has netted 15 times and picked up five assists in 41 matches for Juventus in the 2024-25 season.
