Burnley set to rival Leeds United in Spurs transfer race

Burnley have entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur winger Manor Solomon.

That’s according to former Spurs and Manchester United scout Mick Brown, who has informed Football Insider about the interest from the Clarets.

Solomon spent last season on loan with Leeds United, where he impressed, prompting thoughts of a permanent deal following the Whites’ promotion.

But those ambitions will have taken a slight knock in discovering that one of their fellow promoted sides holds an interest.

Brown revealed to Football Insider that both Burnley and Leeds are interested in the winger.

The same outlet revealed last month that Spurs, Solomon’s parent club, are looking to sell the winger following his successful loan spell.

TBR Football stated last month that the north London side are asking for £20m for the Israel international, but that came before this latest Burnley reveal.

With Leeds and Burnley potentially set to battle it out over Solomon, their race to the forward’s signature could end up pushing the price up.

Leeds have more than just Burnley to worry about

It would be challenging enough beat away Burnley’s interest heading into the new season, but Leeds are thought to have even more company than that.

French side Marseille are another club that have been linked with Solomon by Football Insider.

Playing in France’s top tier, against the likes of PSG, will have its own attractions, as will the fact that Les Olympiens can offer Champions League football thanks to their second-placed finish this term.

That’s an opportunity Leeds and Burnley simply cannot offer, but they do have a full Premier League season ahead of them, widely regarded as the most elite league in world football.

Leicester City plotting surprise Leeds United transfer swoop - he was out on loan last season

Leicester are yet to sign a new player this summer - could that be about to change in the near future?

Solomon would be wise to opt for Leeds

Should the winger opt for anywhere other than Leeds, he will be back to a familiar fight for minutes that he has endured in the past at Spurs, once again forced to prove himself to another manager, and fit himself into a new system.

At Leeds, having provided 22 goal contributions to the Yorkshire side in the Championship last season, he has little left to prove to Daniel Farke, who knows exactly how he’ll use the player.

Minutes are never guaranteed, especially in the Premier League, but Solomon will have a lot more certainty under a manager that has already worked with him for a season, and so will know from the outset precisely why he wants the player at the club.

The allure of Champions League football will be a tough one to turn down, should it be offered, but Marseille only have eight guaranteed games in that competition, and Solomon will have no assurances he’ll play in any of them.

After two attempts, with Fulham and Spurs, Solomon still awaits his first full Premier League season as a weekly starter. Burnley can offer that, but engineering a move to Leeds could put him in the best possible spot.
