Forget Tom Lawrence, Wrexham must sign out-of-favour Crystal Palace winger this summer - opinion

Has there ever been a better time to be a Wrexham supporter? Perhaps not.

This season is set to be an incredibly exciting one for the Red Dragons, and after winning three successive promotions, they are getting ready for their first taste of second tier football since 1982.

Phil Parkinson will be looking ahead to fixture release day on 26 June, and as Wrexham look to bring in new players at the Racecourse Ground, the rumour mill is working overtime.

Ryan Hardie has already left Plymouth Argyle to make the switch to Wales, and there is another player who featured throughout the 2024/25 campaign in the Championship who the Red Dragons should look to sign.

Wrexham must beat Charlton Athletic in any race to sign Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

As per a report from Richard Cawley, Charlton Athletic are keen on bringing Jesurun Rak-Sakyi back to The Valley after a successful loan spell with the Addicks in 2022/23.

He scored 15 goals and registered eight assists that season, and last time out he spent time at Sheffield United, finding the back of the net seven times while also picking up two assists.

However, Crystal Palace are looking to either sell or loan the 22-year-old this summer, and Charlton are keen. However, the Eagles will have a high valuation that the Addicks, despite their play-off final cash winnings, may not be able to meet.

Yet, the highly-ambitious Wrexham may just look to put their name out there in the Championship this summer, and hijacking any potential deal for Rak-Sakyi would be further proof that they mean business.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is a better option than Tom Lawrence

It has been reported by Darren Witcoop that the Red Dragons are showing an interest in Tom Lawrence, with the 32-year-old leaving Rangers this summer at the end of his contract.

However, injury issues have plagued the Wrexham-born ace over the last few years since he left Derby County in 2022, and signing him on a big contract would be a risk.

While Rak-Sakyi may be a more expensive purchase in the short-term, he long-term gain from bringing him in would far outweigh any negatives in this situation.
