Olympic gold medalist backs out of Tyreek Hill race

Last month, NFL wide receiver Tyreek Hill announced that he intends to race Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles in a race to put his blazing NFL speed to the test. But unfortunately, according to Lyles, it seems as if this race is no longer in the works.

In a statement to the New York Post, Lyles outlined how he and Hill were actually supposed to race one another in New York City this coming weekend. But ultimately, the event has been called off due to “complications” and “personal reasons”.

“We were very deep into creating the event. In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend,” Lyles said. “Unfortunately there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn’t come to pass, but we were full on. We were gonna have a big event, we were going to shut down New York Times Square and everything, we were gonna have all the billboards for the event, it was going to be a lot of fun.”

This decision comes after Hill put his speed on display at a recent track meet he competed in last week in California, winning the event with a 10.15-second 100-meter dash.

It’s unclear what exactly caused Lyles to call off the event. But chances are, it wasn’t because Lyles was ultimately afraid of losing to Hill.

While Hill is undoubtedly one of the fastest men in NFL history, his 10.15-second 100-meter time still pales in comparison to Lyles’ time at the Paris Summer Olympics last year, running the event in 9.79 seconds, which won him a gold medal in the event.

With the NFL season quickly approaching for Hill, chances are rescheduling the race will likely be quite difficult to fit in. So, unless we see the two race next year after the end of the NFL season, we may never get to see whether Hill can potentially give Lyles a run for his money.
