There is a danger that emotion can run away with football: Fine if you are supporter but bad news if you are a coach or manager working in a professional capacity. With West Ham saying goodbye to a host of ever-presents there must have been a strong temptation for Graham Potter to relent and offer ‘just one more year’ to the two stalwarts with seventeen years between them, Aaron Cresswell and [Lucas Fabianski.](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-mull-fabianski-sale-as-areola-era-dawns/)
Whilst Aaron Cresswell is linked with moves to the championship, it does seem as through Graham Potter’s decision to call ‘time’ on the Premier League career of Pole Fabianski was the correct decision.
News today that ‘Fab’ has been considered by newly promoted championship side Charlton but ‘snubbed’ according to [footballleagueworld.co.uk](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/charlton-athletic-offered-veteran-west-ham-goalkeeper-lukasz-fabianski-on-free-transfer/) would suggest that Potter made the correct call: At 40, the veteran is no longer considered to be a top flight keeper and might have to reconsider offers from Poland to prolong his career.
The Hammers in the meantime enter thew swirling vortex of the transfer window with no funds for a Fabianski replacement and only one top flight keeper. Enough on its own to keep the lights on late at night whilst Potter and Macaulay figure out how to bring a Premier League level replacement in for Fabianski without parting with any cash.
