Southwark man will cycle 475 miles from Glasgow to Crystal Palace to honour his friend and raise money for lymphoma…

A 55-year-old will be cycling 475 miles from Glasgow to Crystal Palace in just five days in a bid to raise money for Lymphoma charity, in memory of his friend who passed away from blood cancer in 2023.

Starting at Partick Thistle in Glasgow on Monday 14th July and finishing at Crystal Palace on Friday 18th July, Fraser MacDonald will be stopping off at multiple football ground on his way down.

Fraser’s friend Hugh Porter sadly passed away from non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. Back in 2020, Hugh took on his ‘Round the Grounds’ fundraising challenge, where he cycled round 12 football grounds in London, joined by Fraser. .”

Lymphoma Action were a big help to Hugh and supported him throughout his cancer treatment” says Fraser.

“For everyone who took part or helped with Round the Grounds, it became one of those mythical days that only grows in stature. It should also be noted that most of us hadn’t ridden a bike since our teens!”

Hugh raised a huge £25,000 for the charity that helped him through his lymphoma diagnosis.

July 2025 marks five years since Hugh’s initial challenge and Fraser will be taking on a new challenge to honour his good friend.

Coined by Fraser as ‘the Jaggy Eagle’, he will be cycling between two football grounds Hugh was passionate about: Glasgow and Crystal Palace.

All money raised will be going to Lymphoma Action which the only charity in the Uk dedicated to lymphoma. Lymphoma is the fifth most deadly form of cancer and Lymphoma Action has helped drive improvements in the diagnosis, treatment, and aftercare of lymphoma.
